Anchorage, Alaska's largest city lies between the Knik and Turnagain arms of
Cook Inlet and the rugged Chugach Mountains. It is home to almost one half of
the state's population, and serves as the financial, communications and
transportation hub of Alaska.
After arriving at our hotel, we walked across the street to the Saturday Market
that featured Alaska crafts, produce, snack foods and entertainment..

Laura and I ate our first meal in Anchorage at the Snow
Goose Restaurant where we had a good view overlooking the Gulf of Alaska.
The tide can be as much as 38 feet which is the second highest tide in North
America. Only the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia exceeds the tide in Alaska. We
were eating at 6:00 pm Saturday which was 10:00 pm on the time we
started the day.
With the time change being four hours behind us, we were ready for bed long
before dark. We soon learned that we could never stay up until dark with over 22
hours of sunlight. |
